Here at Protheroe Insurance we offer public and employers’ liability insurance to you and your business. Whether you take out an individual policy or merge it as part of a Commercial Combined policy – we can cover you. Public liability cover isn’t required by law but may save you a small fortune in the event that someone tries to claim against you. However, employers’ liability is a legal requirement for businesses, even if you are only employing one person.
Public Liability
Public liability covers you if a member of the public claims that they have incurred an injury or loss from a result of one of your employees or your business. Unfortunately, in today’s ‘blame and claim’ culture claims like these can quickly escalate and cost a business thousands of pounds. For example, if a member of the public slipped on a wet surface at your premises and injured themselves, then it’s likely they will want to be reimbursed for time off work, medical bills, solicitor’s fees, court fees – the list goes on!
Employers’ Liability
If you have someone working for you, regardless if they’re an unpaid volunteer or full-time staff, you are legally required to have employers’ liability insurance in place. This is a requirement by law because you as a business are responsible for the health and safety of your employees while they’re at work, or on work business. If they suffered an injury at work or became ill due to a result of their working conditions, they can make a claim against you for compensation.
